Assignment 6A- Economic & Regulatory change

Assignment 6A
  • Economic trend: "If you shut down the government, you slow down the economy"
    • Source: Shutdown
      • I believe an opportunity exists because this shutdown has been the longest one in history which started December 22, 2018. The economy is slowing down due to this shutdown.
      •  The prototypical customers are those who are working for the government and haven't received their paychecks and can't maintain their families.
      • The opportunity to exploit would be difficult because it's up to the president to decide when he plans on reopening the government.
      • I saw this opportunity because so many people are talking about this economic trend and it's all over the place.
  • Economic trend: "Next year, the U.S. will export more energy than it imports. This hasn't happened since 1953"
    • Source: https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/24/business/us-energy-exporter-2020-oil-natural-gas-shale/index.html
    • I believe an opportunity exists because there are statistics to back this up. The evidence is clear in the article and there are many things that are affecting this such as climate impact and energy independence.
    • The prototypical customers are those who work in this industry and residents in the United States.
    • The opportunity to exploit would be somewhat difficult because many people would benefit from this and the United States would become a net energy exporter.
    • I saw this opportunity because this is something that interests me. Seeing how a country can become an energy exporter would be a huge deal and would better connections with other countries.
  • Regulatory trend: "Gainesville looking to change immigration policy to prevent crime victims from being deported"
    • I believe an opportunity exists because Gainesville police and others are not complying because they don't believe this is what makes their community.
    • The prototypical customers are those who are illegal and crime victims.
    • The opportunity to exploit would be easy because they're doing the right thing by making these delinquents serve their time here and not get the easy way out.
    • I saw this opportunity because immigration now is a huge issue and many people are trying to see how they deal with it.
  • Regulatory trend: "the Proposed amendment would ban vaping indoors"
    • I believe an opportunity exists because the evidence is backed up by voters and many legal issues.
    • The prototypical customers are those who vape indoors and people who dislike it
    • The opportunity to exploit would be easy because it wasn't a thing before and people aren't allowed to smoke indoors so it's the same issue.
    • I saw this opportunity because many people have been talking about this issue and when I came across this article I was interested in reading it.

  1. Hi Guiliana,
I liked reading your summaries of the regulatory and economic trends that you found. The one that interested me the most was the one about banning vaping indoors. I agree that this could be easy to exploit because it hasn't been a real issue for a long time but I think it will face more backlash than the ban on smoking indoors because people can claim that it smells better and some vapes don't contain nicotine so people can also claim that it isn't near as bad for the bystanders around them. But I do agree that it should be banned because I believe that it is not polite or considerate to the people around you. Overall, good post and interesting articles.

  2. Hi Guiliana,

I liked the two regulatory and the two economic trends that you wrote about. I wish that you went into a little more depth about why you saw the opportunities. I understand that many people have been talking about the issue and you were interested, but what made you interested. Was it because you have experienced something similar to it before in your life or that you have never heard of it before? Other than that, I think you did a great job at explaining why the opportunities exists and who the prototypical customers are.
