Assignment 7A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 1
Assignment 7A
Opportunity:
Opportunity:
- Every day, 28 people die as a result of drunk drivers. Most of these drunk drivers are not aware of their alcohol limit and think they're "ok" to drive.
- Who: People who drink and drive
- What: They aren't aware of their alcohol limit
- Why: They have no way of telling
- Testing the who:
- People are constantly drinking and driving and not only are they affecting their lives but also the lives of others. Not only does this happen in the United States but all over the world. These people are getting DUI's and then have a record and huge debt. Also, they're affecting the lives of innocent people who haven't drunk and happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- Testing what: Many people who drink and drive aren't aware that they're over the limit. It's dangerous to drive without knowing what your limit is. If you drive knowing you're over the limit then that depends on the person who wants to risk it. But, it's always better to know when you're okay to drive or if not simply order an Uber.
- Testing why: No one likes carrying around something that doesn't fit in your pocket especially men when they're out. Girls usually carry purses which makes it easier to carry things around. There are different breathalyzers in the market but few people use them because it isn't easy to take with you.
- Interview #1: This person is in their early 20's and says that she sees her own friends drinking and driving all the time. She doesn't own a car so she never drinks and drives but she has been in her friend's car and says she's been scared for her life. "They're always like I'm good" but they really aren't. I think there is a need out there for this invention or something similar but I don't know if people would actually use it because most people just think it'll never be me.
- Interview #2: This guy is a bartender in his mid 20's. He says he sees people drink and drive every day when he leaves the bar around 2:30am. He also admits he has drunk and drive before but he prefers not to so if this was invented he would definitely buy it and even take it to the bar and lend it to people. He says if someone asked him to stay with them for a little he would and just give them water until they're okay. "I've seen people get stopped in front of me" it's not even me and I feel for them.
- Interview #3: This guy is also in his mid 20's. He thinks the need for this invention is definitely out there and that he would use it. Once after a night out, he got stopped but it was for speeding and he got lucky. He says at that moment he decided to never drink and drive again but that if he would ever drink and drive again he would for sure need something like this.
- Interview #4: This woman is in her late 30's and her husband is a cop. She has heard all types of stories and says it's unfortunate for people who weren't ready to pass away pass away because of someone else's irresponsibility. She says that here in Gainesville very young ladies get arrested for drinking and driving and ruin their record. Her husband and she think this invention is a great idea but the accuracy is what concerns them.
- Interview #5: This man in his mid 50's thinks it's a great idea and would buy it for his grandson who just turned 21. It scares him to know how many people drink and drive. He thinks those big breathalyzers won't be used by young kids because they might even be embarrassed to take those things around.
- What do you know about the opportunity that you didn't know before?
- Many interviewees brought up some really good points such as the accuracy concern which I hadn't really thought about. I think it would be hard but doable to come up with something that's accurate whether it be a case or something else. Young kids would be embarrassed to carry around something like that so the case is a great idea and sometimes if some people have it it'll start a trend and more people will see the benefits and want to use it. In order for it to target men and woman, we can make cases with different colors and prints. The app would order an Uber or Lyft directly which would make it better for those who are impaired.
