Assignment 27A- Reading Reflection No.3
Assignment 27A-
"The New Psychology of Success" by Carol Dweck
1. Our mind controls us in many different ways. I have always believed this but this book gave me a deeper insight into this reality. Dweck gives many ideas on how to develop this type of growth mindset and how to incorporate it in different areas. If you are constantly having negative thoughts things are never going to be positive for you because of this mindset. It's always good to think positive and attract all the positivity you can. Once you change your thoughts everything in the outside will change along with you.
2. I think this book enhances ENT3003 in many different ways. One of them is that in order to be an entrepreneur you have to always think positive in order for everything around you to influence that. You deal with a lot of people and go through many different things and if you keep this growth mindset you will always grow and learn from every experience and view it in a positive way instead of negative.
3. If I were to develop an exercise for this class pertaining to this book, I would probably have students name 5 things they have negative thoughts on and reflect on each. At the beginning of this class, we did something similar and it was meant to change our idea of things and think about the why's. This exercise would allow students to work on their negative thoughts and at the end of the semester reflect on how they improved because sometimes positive thoughts do go a long way.
4. The biggest aha moment while reading this book was when the author mentioned how praising children's intelligence isn't the right thing to do instead teaching them that failing, making mistakes, loving challenges is all a part of growing and this way they'll enjoy that they have a lifelong way to build and repair their own confidence. This is something that really got to me because many parents don't know this and honestly, it's a great way to prepare children for the real world.

Hi Guiliana,
ReplyDeleteI did not choose this book to read for this assignment but it seemed interesting so I'm glad I could read a summary of it from you. I think this book covers a topic that a lot of students could benefit from: positive thinking. I have always believed that trying to keep your mindset positive is a huge key in success, and now I can see that this book supports my thoughts which is cool.
Hey Guiliana,
ReplyDeleteHmm interesting book. I didn't know this book would have to do with mentalities. I think it's really interesting. Your comment on the Aha moment is nice too. That we shouldn't praise kids only but also teach them about mistakes. It interestingly matches really well with the "Celebrating failures" assignment we had this week. I think it's a good idea to have, that you should be able to learn from your mistakes and stay positive.
